Cleveland – Signal Ohio is thrilled to share that The Marshall Project and Signal Cleveland recently won the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Award for Best Data Visualization (Local/Small) for their work on the Cleveland Judge Guide.

“This international recognition from WAN-IFRA – an organization spotlighting innovative journalism across the Americas – means a lot, especially given the incredible projects from Spanish- and Portuguese-language newsrooms we were up against,” said Signal Cleveland managing editor Rachel Dissell. “In challenging times, this work is a reminder of the power of community-driven journalism to bring light and drive change.”

The Judge Guide is Signal Cleveland’s most widely used local tool, empowering Clevelanders with information about judicial elections and encouraging deeper civic engagement – especially among those most impacted by the system. It would not have been possible without the help of the Cleveland Documenters program, whose grassroots reporting and community connection helped make this project such a success.

WAN-IFRA recognizes the efforts of publishers from North, Central and South America that have developed unique and original initiatives in the field of digital media, with the help of new tools and formats, using the most advanced technology or driving innovation, from new approaches to digital subscriptions to the most impactful digital storytelling or native advertising initiatives, the Digital Media Awards are a reference for the industry regionally and globally.
